What type of bodywork do you do?
I do bodywork and massage that helps decrease pain and stress.  My sessions are often a  mix of the many modalities I have studied over the past 18 years.  The clothed bodywork techniques I use include strain-counterstrain, fascial counterstrain and craniosacral.  The massage techniques I utilize include myofascial release, myoskeletal alignment, swedish, guasha and a number of other techniques.

Do you do deep tissue massage?
I do massages that can have deep and profound effects, but I don’t do “deep tissue massage”.  I have found that my work is more effective using a variety of techniques that “ask” the muscles to relax rather than trying to force them manually to release.  If you are looking for a therapist to grind you into the table I am not the one for you and I’m happy to refer you out to someone who may be a better fit.

Do you only treat women?
My specialty is working with women who are dealing with pain and stress.  I currently see men if they are referred by an existing client.

Do you offer pregnancy massage?
I am trained in prenatal massage and have the bodyCushion System that allows prenatal clients to lay face down during the massage. Occasionally there are women who are unable to lay face down and then we use a side-lying position.  If you are  experiencing a high risk or complicated pregnancy there are massage therapists who have extensive training in complicated pregnancy and they would be better suited to working with you.

Are you covered by insurance?
A few insurance companies reimburse for massage and I am happy to provide you with a receipt/statement that you can self submit if your insurance happens to be one of these.

What are my payment options?
You can pay using cash or card.  I accept all major credit cards.

Can I use my HSA?
Many of my clients are able to use their HSA cards to pay for their massages.  Some of them need to have a doctor’s referral on file in order to do this.  You will need to check with your HSA provider to see if you are able to use your HSA for massage and if their are stipulations that need to be met to do so.

Is your space accessible?
Yes.  We have a ramp into the building and our restroom is accessible. I also use a hydraulic table which is 16.5” at it’s lowest height.

Do I have to take my clothes off?
No.  My goal is to make sure you are comfortable and secure during every session.  Some of the modalities I use are done fully clothed.  These include counterstrain and craniosacral.  Other modalities work best unclothed but only if you are comfortable with this.  Some clients are comfortable being partially unclothed and this is totally fine.  Please communicate with me what works for you so we can work together to make sure your session feels safe for you.

Does massage hurt?
I don’t believe that massages need to hurt in order to be effective.  Although some of my techniques can be intense, I always want you to let me know if we move out of the “it hurts but in a good way” arena and into actual pain.  I want your session to be effective rather than painful and your communication with me is the key to making this happen.

Should I tip?
I do not accept gratuity.  The best way to show your appreciation is to refer your friends or to leave me a review.

Why do you wear nitrile gloves?
The main reason I wear gloves when I do massage is because of the topical hormones and other topical medications/chemicals that I come into contact with during my work. For many years I struggled with my own hormone balance and after adding gloves into my practice most of those issues have dissipated. I can’t tell you if it’s correlation or causation, but I’m sticking with it.

Will nitrile gloves ruin the feel of the massage?
Most clients have told me that they can’t tell that I am wearing gloves. A few have told me told me that they prefer the feeling of the nitrile gloves. I invite you to come in and see for yourself.

What should I do if I have an appointment and get sick?
Please contact me as soon as possible to cancel/reschedule your appointment. If you get sick within the 24 hours prior to your appointment please call me directly to reschedule, as within that time frame you won’t be able to cancel/reschedule online. I don’t work on people when they are sick, so it’s imperative to let me know prior to the scheduled appointment. If you show up sick to your appointment, the appointment will be canceled.
